Cat Portrait and Other Works
The show combined sculpture, video, photography and installation in a series of relations where boundaries between artwork, environment, prop and backdrop were actively negotiated and blurred. The show was exploring the exhibition as a looping form of state, played out across multiple registers and by numerous agents. Looping back between the artificial brick wall running alongside the entrance area, the faux fire accompanying the video Past Lives Selector, and the performance unfolding within this work, was a set of negotiations between gesture, appearances and a continuously shifting set of authenticities. Within this show, there were a number of works holding the status of connectors, or punctuation marks, elements existing in an in between space between artwork, prop and environment and a form of glue to the total environment and atmosphere that constituted the exhibition.
