Checking the Stove
The moving image and sculptural installation Checking the Stove comprises video loops housed in a cardboard container. The interior video draws on material from Eriksson’s 1997 work, Ett Familjeprojekt, a film punctuated by the question,”are you filming us now?”, combined with observational footage of turkeys circling the grounds of a farm. Projected on the structure’s exterior is the looping footage of a flock of sheep moving in and out of their pen, the farm and the viewfinder. Across the inside and outside, of the layerings of movements and sounds, an overall state is produced. There is a fascination with the loop as a feature of intensity, generated through repetition, as in the checking the stove being off, and still off, repeated ad nauseum.
